Riddle Up

Riddle Up is a free offline riddle game for Android. It holds more than 1,000 riddles, brain teasers and logic puzzles, every one of them multiple choice with the correct answer revealed the moment you tap — and, unlike almost every other riddle app, a written explanation of why that answer is right. The riddles are arranged in 50 levels of 10, and the whole collection sits on your phone, so it plays with no internet and no account.

What makes it different

Every riddle tells you why

Most riddle apps stop at the answer. You guess, you are told you were wrong, and you are left none the wiser about the trick you missed. Riddle Up shows the reasoning. That is the difference between being beaten by a riddle and learning how that kind of riddle works — which is why it suits students, teachers and English learners as well as puzzle fans.

“How do you move Mount Fuji?”

  • A Blow it up Your answer
  • B Creative answers Correct
Explanation

This tests lateral thinking. You can “move” it by moving yourself relative to it, or by waiting for continental drift over millions of years.

A real riddle, answer and explanation from the app.

How it works

Fifty levels, ten riddles at a time

The app opens on the level map. There is nothing to configure and nothing to sign up for.

  1. Pick a level

Levels run from 01 Warm Up through Getting Started, Finding Rhythm, Building Up, Halfway There, Getting Tricky and Brain Bender, up to 50. Later levels stay locked until you earn them.

  2. Answer ten riddles

Each riddle comes with four options. Tap one and the answer is marked immediately — green for right, red for wrong — with the explanation one tap away.

  3. Pass and unlock

Ten points per correct answer, 100 for a clean sheet. Seven out of ten passes the level and opens the next. Miss it and you can review every question and try again.

  4. Watch the scoreboard

Levels played, levels passed, average score, best score and a dated log of every attempt — so improvement is something you can actually see rather than something you assume.

What the app looks like

Eight screens from the current release, in the order they appear on Google Play. The app ships with both a light and a dark theme.

The Riddle Up home screen in light mode, headed Riddle Up, level up your mind, with a Ready for a challenge card showing 7 of 50 levels unlocked at 14 per cent, a current rank of Level 7 and 43 levels to go, above a coloured grid of level tiles numbered 01 Warm Up, 02 Getting Started, 03 Finding Rhythm, 04 Building Up, 05 Halfway There, 06 Getting Tricky and 07 Brain Bender, with 08 and 09 locked
The level map — 50 levels, named and numbered, with your rank, your progress and how many are left to unlock.
Level 7 Brain Bender, question 1 of 10, showing the riddle Dark with white markings, smooth like a rock. Where learning occurs, I convey thought. What am I? with four options — A a piano, B blackboard or chalkboard, C a zebra, D a book
A riddle as it appears — four options, no timer, no lives, question one of ten.
Question 7 of 10 answered — the riddle What has a foot but no legs? with option A, a ruler, highlighted green and ticked as correct, option B, mountain, highlighted red and crossed out, and a View Explanation button below
Answers are marked the instant you tap — right in green, wrong in red — with the explanation one tap below.
An explanation screen reading Not quite right for the riddle How do you move Mount Fuji? showing the player's answer Blow it up in red, the correct answer Creative answers in green, and an explanation panel saying this tests lateral thinking and that you can move it by moving yourself relative to it or by waiting for continental drift over millions of years
The feature no other riddle app advertises — a written explanation behind every single riddle.
A Quiz Complete screen in dark mode with a green trophy card reading Level 5, Congratulations, you passed this level, 90 out of 100 points, above tiles showing 9 correct, 1 wrong and 90 per cent accuracy, a performance bar at 90 per cent, a New level unlocked banner for Level 6, and the start of a question review list
Pass a level and the next one unlocks, with your score, accuracy and a full question review.

The same Riddle Up level map shown in dark mode under the heading Play Offline Anytime, No Internet Needed, with the level grid, progress bar and rank card all rendered on a dark background
The whole collection lives on the device, so it plays on a plane, a train or anywhere with no signal. Dark mode included.
A Quiz Complete screen for Level 7 in dark mode with an orange card reading Better Luck Next Time, you need 4 more to pass, 30 out of 100 points, tiles showing 3 correct, 7 wrong and 30 per cent accuracy, and a question review listing the riddle I live in the sky but fall to the ground, I'm cold and white and make no sound, answered Snow
Miss the pass mark and nothing is lost — every question is there to review, answer by answer.

Features

What the app does

1,000+ riddles with answers

Easy warm-ups through to hard brain teasers, each one with its correct answer revealed as soon as you choose.

An explanation every time

Not just what the answer is, but why — the wordplay, the logic or the lateral leap the riddle was built on.

Multiple choice

Four options per riddle. Nothing to type, nothing to spell, and no arguing with the app about whether your wording counted.

Fifty levels that get harder

Ten riddles per level, named and numbered, rising in difficulty. Pass one and the next unlocks.

A real scoreboard

Levels played, levels passed, average score, best score, and a dated list of every attempt with its accuracy.

Question review

After every level, go back through all ten — what was asked, what you said, what was right.

Works with no internet

Riddles, answers, explanations and scores are all on the device. Only the ads need a connection.

No timer, no lives, no waiting

Nothing counts down, nothing runs out, and nothing asks you to come back in four hours or pay to continue.

Light and dark themes

Readable on a bright train platform and comfortable in bed, without changing anything.

No account, nothing collected

No sign‑up, no login, no email. No personal data collected and no data shared with third parties, as declared in the Play Data safety section.

How it compares

A riddle app that teaches, not just tests

Search “riddles” on Google Play and you get three broad kinds of app: long scrolling lists of riddles with the answer hidden behind a tap, timed quiz games built around lives and coins, and brain-training subscriptions that are not really about riddles at all. Riddle Up sits in none of those groups.

What it does not do. There is no multiplayer mode, no online leaderboard and no way to write your own riddles. The app is supported by ads, which do need a connection even though the riddles do not. The Play Data safety section declares that no personal data is collected and none is shared with third parties.

Language

Plain English, for readers everywhere

Riddles are a genuinely global form — every language has them, and almost every culture uses them to teach children how words bend. Riddle Up is written in clear international English with short sentences and everyday vocabulary, so it reads naturally in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia and the UAE. That also makes it comfortable for ESL and EFL readers, who get a short passage, a clear answer and an explanation of the wordplay in one place.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is Riddle Up?

Riddle Up is a free offline riddle game for Android, published by QuoteForever and developed by NewsMediaLists. It holds more than 1,000 riddles, brain teasers and logic puzzles arranged in 50 levels of 10. Every riddle is multiple choice, shows the correct answer the moment you tap, and carries a written explanation of the reasoning behind it.

Is Riddle Up free?

Yes. The whole collection is free. The app is supported by ads. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, no coins and no lives to buy.

Does it work without the internet?

Yes. Everything is stored on your device and plays offline — the riddles, the answers, the explanations and your scoreboard. Ads need a connection; the puzzles do not.

Do the riddles come with answers?

Yes. Each one has a correct answer and multiple-choice options, so you are never left guessing. The chosen option is marked green if it is right and red if it is wrong, and an explanation of the answer is one tap away.

How many riddles are there?

More than 1,000, and new ones are added in updates. They are organised into 50 levels of 10 riddles each, rising from easy warm-ups to hard brain benders.

Is it suitable for children?

The content is family friendly and rated for everyone on Google Play. Younger players usually enjoy it most alongside an adult, partly because some of the later levels are genuinely hard and partly because the explanations are worth reading together.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no email and no login. The app opens straight onto the level map.

Can I use it at a party or in class?

Yes. Read a question aloud, let everyone guess, then reveal the answer — and the explanation, which is usually where the argument gets settled. It works as a lesson starter, a road-trip game and a party round.

How do the levels work?

There are 50 numbered levels with names such as Warm Up, Getting Started, Finding Rhythm, Building Up, Halfway There, Getting Tricky and Brain Bender. Each holds 10 riddles. You score 10 points per correct answer, up to 100 for a level, and seven correct out of ten passes it and unlocks the next one. Levels you have not reached yet stay locked.

What happens if I fail a level?

Nothing is lost. The results screen shows how many more you needed, gives you your score and accuracy, and lets you review all ten questions — what was asked, what you answered and what the right answer was — before you try again. There are no lives to run out of and no wait to retry.

Does the app explain the answers?

Yes, and this is what sets it apart from other riddle apps. Every riddle has a written explanation of why the answer is right — the wordplay, the logic or the lateral thinking it depends on. Most riddle apps give you the answer and nothing else.

Does it track my progress?

Yes. A scoreboard records your lifetime statistics — levels played, levels passed, average score and best score — along with a dated history of every attempt showing the level, the points, how many you got right and whether you passed.

Is there a timer?

No. There is no countdown, no lives system and no energy meter. You can sit with a riddle as long as you like, which is the point of a riddle.

Does it collect my data?

No personal data is collected and no data is shared with third parties, as declared in the app's Google Play Data safety section.

What kinds of riddle are included?

What am I riddles, funny riddles, hard riddles for adults, easy riddles for beginners, logic riddles, lateral thinking puzzles, word riddles and wordplay, math riddles and number puzzles, trick questions, classic riddles everyone should know, quick one-line riddles, longer story puzzles, and party riddles for road trips, sleepovers, family game nights and classroom warm-ups.

Does it work on tablets?

Yes. The app runs on Android phones and tablets, and ships with both a light and a dark theme.

About QuoteForever

QuoteForever is a library of quotations organised by topic, author, profession and occasion, with a quote of the day and picture quotes you can make and share. Riddle Up comes from the same place and the same idea: short pieces of language worth stopping for. Where a quotation gives you something to think with, a riddle gives you something to think through — and the explanation behind each one is there so it teaches rather than just catches you out.

The app is developed and published on Google Play by NewsMediaLists, which also maintains the News Media Lists world media directory and a family of free reference, calculator and puzzle apps.

About the riddles. Riddles are a traditional form and most of those collected here are long-established folk riddles with no single known author, retold in our own words. Explanations are written by the QuoteForever editorial team. If you believe a riddle in the app is someone's original copyrighted work, tell us and we will remove it.
